Sports Clubs

Sport plays an important role in school life at Ormskirk CE Primary School. Through a variety of lunchtime and after-school activities, pupils have opportunities to develop new skills, stay active, build confidence and represent the school in competitions throughout the year.

Our sports provision includes netball, football, cross-country running and a range of taster sessions and team selection opportunities led by Mr Peetoom, Mr Wilkinson and external sports providers.

Netball

Mr Peetoom leads four netball sessions across three days (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday), all taking place at lunchtime.

Pupils who attended last year and are now in Years 5 and 6 retain their places. Mr Peetoom allocates pupils to the appropriate session and informs them accordingly. If your child no longer wishes to attend, please let Mr Peetoom know so that their place can be offered to another pupil.

There are 18 places available for Year 4 pupils. A small number of places may also become available for Years 5 and 6. As netball continues to be extremely popular, a waiting list operates when sessions become oversubscribed.

Year 6 girls who are new to netball are particularly encouraged to join. The club provides an excellent opportunity to learn the sport before moving to secondary school while developing confidence and resilience through participation in team sport.

The cost is a one-off payment of £5 for the Autumn Term (September to December), payable via Gateway at the end of September.

Football

Active Sport continues to provide a Monday after-school football club for boys and girls in both KS1 and KS2. Sessions take place either in the KS1 Hall or on the school field, depending on the weather. Please refer to the provider's flyer for booking and payment information.

NEW! Mr Wilkinson and Mr Peetoom lead the school's Girls' Football Club for Year 4 and Year 5 pupils. The club was introduced to encourage greater participation in football and provide more opportunities for girls to develop their skills and enjoy competitive sport.

Sessions take place every Thursday after school. Wherever possible, activities are held on the school field, with the hall available during periods of heavy rain.

The cost is a one-off payment of £8 for the Autumn Term (September to December), payable via Gateway at the end of September.

Cross-Country Running

Mr Wilkinson leads the school's Cross-Country Running Club on Monday lunchtimes. The club is open to all KS2 pupils.

Children run for approximately 12-15 minutes at the beginning of lunchtime, helping them develop fitness, endurance and healthy lifestyle habits.

This club is free of charge.

Sports Taster Sessions and Team Selection Opportunities

Throughout the year, Mr Peetoom organises a range of sports taster sessions and team selection opportunities for KS2 pupils. These sessions may be offered to specific year groups or groups of pupils depending on the activity.

Sports may include:

  • Swimming
  • Tag Rugby
  • Cricket
  • Rounders
  • Athletics
  • Football

Children are informed about upcoming opportunities in advance through classroom visits and announcements.

Participation in Mr Peetoom's clubs is free of charge for children eligible for Pupil Premium funding.

Any money raised will be spent on school sports.
