Headteacher Update

Dear Parents and Carers,

With the first half of the Autumn Term now behind us, it is a good opportunity to reflect on the past two months. It has been a busy start to the school year: alongside daily learning, children have enjoyed a wide range of school events, educational visits, sporting activities and other experiences which have made the term enjoyable. As always, there have been challenges along the way, but I am incredibly grateful to our staff for the flexibility and commitment they have shown throughout.

Among the many highlights of the term was our Giant Conker Competition. Special congratulations go to Seren, whose impressive entry secured first place. I am sure there will be fierce competition from aspiring challengers next year!

I would also like to recognise the success of our recent Parents' Evenings. It was wonderful to see so many families taking the time to discuss their children's progress and celebrate their achievements. Strong partnerships between home and school are invaluable, and the positive conversations that took place over the evenings reflected the shared commitment we have to helping our children thrive.

That partnership is also reflected in our attendance figures. Attendance has remained strong, with our overall attendance currently standing at 95%. Regular attendance plays a vital role in children's learning and development, and it is encouraging to see so many pupils making the most of every school day. Whilst this is a positive figure, there is still scope for improvement, particularly through reducing avoidable absences and ensuring children arrive at school on time. Small changes can make a significant difference over the course of a school year.

On a more personal note, we would like to share some special celebrations from within our staff team. Congratulations to Mr Williams, who recently became a first-time father to a beautiful baby boy. We are delighted for him and his family as they begin this exciting new chapter together and wish them every happiness in the months and years ahead. We would also like to offer our warmest congratulations to Mr Wilkinson, who will soon be getting married. We wish him and his fiancée every happiness as they prepare for their big day and for the exciting new chapter that follows.

Finally, after a well-earned half-term break, we are looking forward to welcoming everyone back and kicking off the next half term with our annual Firework Display on Tuesday 3rd November at 5.00pm. As always, this event is exclusively for members of our school community and their families, and we hope many of you will be able to join us.

Have a wonderful half-term break and enjoy the time with your families. We look forward to seeing everyone refreshed and ready for another exciting half term.

Best wishes,
Mr Storch

Shining Stars!

A huge congratulations to our Shining Stars from the last two weeks.

Well done to Hattie, Teddy and Theo (Rec), Special and Ottilie (Y1), Isla and Rethabile (Y2), Nevaeh and Sophie (Y3), Sanudi, Harry and Lincoln (Y4), Jeremiah and Lilly (Y5), Harry and Emily!

A Fantastic Half Term of Sport!

It has been an incredibly successful first half term for sport at our school, with record numbers of children taking part in extracurricular clubs and activities.

Monday's Active Sport football sessions continue to be well attended, as do Clare Swift's popular dance classes. Many children are also making excellent progress through their Taekwondo belts with Eddie. Mr Peetoom's High Five Netball sessions have grown from four to five groups each week, with around 85 children now attending across the programme. Demand has been so high that all five groups are currently full, with new applicants being placed on a waiting list.

We have also been delighted by the response to our new girls' football club, led by Mr Peetoom and Mr Wilkinson, which has encouraged more girls than ever before to get involved in the game. Meanwhile, Mr Wilkinson's Monday lunchtime cross-country club continues to grow, with places still available for anyone who would like to take part.

Our pupils have also represented the school superbly in a range of sporting events across the district. In September, our runners performed brilliantly in the Composite Relay events at Ormskirk High School. Our netball team enjoyed another outstanding tournament at Burscough Priory, winning every match to be crowned Ormskirk and District Champions for the third consecutive year, a fantastic achievement.

Our Year 3/4 football team also impressed at Burscough Dynamo, winning four matches and drawing one. They narrowly missed out on topping their group on goal difference before just missing out on third place in the play-offs.

Ten of our Year 5 girls recently attended a Tag Rugby Festival at Burscough Leisure Centre, organised by the West Lancashire Sports Partnership in collaboration with Wigan Warriors. Although non-competitive, the event provided a fantastic opportunity for children to develop new skills, build confidence and enjoy the game in a fun and supportive environment.

It has been a wonderful start to the sporting year, with plenty more to look forward to after half term.
